Fascia, Mobility and Breathing
Have you ever been hiking and seen a fresh, rushing river or waterfall? It's teaming with life, energy and flows past any obstacle with power and ease. Now compare that to still water from burst pipes or flooding... Still or stagnant water is a breeding ground for bacteria, pathogens and parasites.
I am not personally a huge fan of swimming in natural sources of water since I’m terrified I’ll be stung by a stingray or munched on by some mythical leviathan but… If I had to choose, I would rather swim the natural water of a rushing river or waterfall than a grimy still water swamp.
Our bodies are over 60% water so similar principles apply!
Keeping our bodies in motion prevents muscular atrophy, joint stiffness, postural misalignment and stagnant energy. Even if you are already lifting weights, exploring dedicated mobility of your fascia (the connective tissue that runs through your whole body) is going to make you feel SO MUCH better both inside and outside the gym.
Now add on using breath and movement together… Breathing is not just a woo-woo practice about clearing the emotions or spiritual essence. Breathing helps the body send neurological signals from place to place. It links all your muscles, joints, fascia and brain to work together and optimally. This is a pretty big topic so I’ll be writing a dedicated post just talking about breathing mechanics soon!
Just 30 minutes a day of movement can improve your risk for heart disease by lowering blood pressure and reducing cholesterol. Combining strength training and mobility training together will get you even more health gains and feeling your best because you'll not only be moving but promoting proper alignment, movement patterns and strength!
30 minutes?!??! you say…. Maybe that sounds like a lot and borderline impossible to make yourself find the time. Maybe that sounds like a little but you’re not sure where to start, what to do and honestly— you still need to binge watch the rest of the new Netflix show.
That is where I come in! As your trainer I am here to help you make and keep that commitment. Even once motivation fades away (which it will) I am here to keep you consistent through thick and thin. I am also here for proper exercise selection, proper exercise intensity and proper body mechanics. I’m here to answer all the questions, make sure your form is the best it can be and help you tweak or even remake your lifestyle. Investing in your health now means you will be spending less on medical bills later.
