Why your diet or weight loss drug alone is not going to work

Did you know….. while working on your nutrition or taking a weight loss drug to lose weight that for every pound lost, 25% can come from lean tissue mass (your muscle!) rather than fat mass.

Loss of muscle mass starts as early as your 30’s! And will continue throughout your lifetime at a rate of 3-5% per decade. As we age muscle loss contributes to body pain, weakness, loss of balance, joint issues and more. Combine this with your nutritional changes or that 40th crash diet you’re trying out— you could be doing more harm than good!

That is why lifting weights and strength training in tandem is paramount while you transform or tweak your nutrition. And why you may not feel like you're seeing results in the way that you are hoping.

In fact, with rapid weight loss without exercise you may end up feeling WORSE because you will be lacking stabilizer muscles and postural control muscles. Many people are interested in both losing weight and 'toning' the muscles. (BTW toning and strengthening are the same thing and are achieved the same way!)

We want to feel good and look good. Nothing wrong with wanting both! But if you aren't approaching your weight loss and strength journey with a holistic or full picture approach, you are not going to see the results you want. Goals paired with an effective strategy and plan will keep you on track, consistent and motivated. Don't know how to make an effective plan to hit your goals??

Start with your big goal long term goal. Break it down into 3 smaller goals that are achievable within shorter time spans (1-2 months). From there come up with actionable items you can do daily. Now find someone besides yourself who can hold you accountable.

This is where a personal trainer and nutritionist come in! Wellness professionals help you create an actionable plan, give you the support you need along the way and help you troubleshoot when you hit a roadblock.

You do not need to do these things alone!

Being healthy and feeling good is not only about the number on the scale. And it is not only about your workout regime either. Every person has their own sweet spot where their physical wellness, their mental wellness and emotional wellness blend together just right so you are feeling good enough to notice the sun on your face and be thankful for the time you have here on earth.

It's a daily task and a life long journey to find that sweet spot and it is my own personal joy to be able to help you get there, no matter the obstacles in the way!
